Stamped Kwanzaa Nails

I really love how these festive Kwanzaa nails look! The only thing I would change would be to use a greener green – the one I used for the stripes, Revlon Wild, looks more like gold. For the red stripes I used Revlon Ravishing, a bright tomato red. I really like how the accent nail turned out, considering I’m not a huge fan of bar glitter. It took about 4-5 coats of Revlon Golden Confetti for almost full coverage without a base color.

Abstract Christmas Nails

I’m really loving these nails, I think they look so festive! They were quick to do and I didn’t use any special tools. On Cyber Monday I purchased this year’s Julep #Coveted set of mini nail polishes (I’ll have swatches and a review of that up soon), so I used several of those in this design.

For the pink glitter nails I used Julep Azalea, a pink holographic glitter with a yellow/gold sheen. I didn’t use sponging for the glitter since it was pretty dense, but I did apply three coats which made it nearly opaque.

For the striped nails I used Julep Fran, a bright red, and a rose gold nameless polish from Academy of Colour. I like the red, but it takes several coats to achieve full opacity. I did two coats on these nails and there were some areas that still looked semi-sheer. What I should have done was use the red as a base, then paint the stripes with the rose gold, but instead I did all the stripes separately which ended up being more work.

Finally, for the Christmas tree nail (my favorite), I began by applying two coats of Julep Yixi, a pretty mint shimmer for the background. Using Revlon Parfumerie Lime Basil I then painted a curvy line down the nail to resemble the tree shape. To give it more dimension, I painted a thinner line over it with Julep Jolene, a greenish-gold metallic. I added the star by dabbing Julep Marisol, an orange shimmer, on the top of the tree.

31DC2017 Inspired by a Flag – Slytherin Banner Nails

As usual, it took me a while before I figured out what I wanted to do for the inspired by a flag prompt. I think I would definitely prefer if this prompt was more general — after doing it a few years it just feels repetitive. But anyway, this year I decided to go the fantasy route and based my nails on the Slytherin banners from Harry Potter. I had to do Slytherin of course since that’s my house!

In my search I found a variety of different designs, so I just took the general look of them which usually featured green stripes and a snake. I like how even though they’re matte, the metallic snake still stands out.

31DC2017 Stripes – Distressed Blue Nails

For today’s stripes prompt, I did some distressed inspired blue-green nails. These were pretty easy to do and they didn’t take long. I painted stripes using shades of blue and green and went over them with sheer colors to further mix them. I love this nail art and might do it again in the future with a warm color scheme.

31DC2017 Rainbow – Stripes Pattern Nails

This year I went with a more straightforward approach to the rainbow prompt. In the past I’ve placed the colors randomly but I really wanted to follow the color order this time. I wasn’t going to add pink originally, but without it the pattern would always be the same. I’m not sure how I feel about the white lines. I like how they break up the colors a bit, but they’re not as clean as I would have liked. Still a really fun and colorful design that I’m happy with overall!

Metallic Gold Kwanzaa Nail Art

kwanzaanails

A simple but elegant design for Kwanzaa representing the kinara. I actually made this more complicated than it needed to be since I wasn’t completely sure what I was doing when I started. So instead of applying the gold first then adding the candles on top, I actually applied the colors first, waited until they had dried, applied double pieces of striping tape and then added the gold last. Unnecessarily complicated, I know! But I love the end result regardless.

For the candles, I used Sparitual Radiant, a shimmery red, and Sinful Colors Secret Admirer, a black with silver shimmer. I used two different polishes for the green. I began with Sinful Colors San Francisco, a metallic green, but that was too sheer even after several coats. So I applied Ciaté La Dolce Vita, a darker green on top. But that was too dark for what I wanted, so then I added another layer of San Francisco over it to brighten the green. Finally, after securing the striping tape, I applied a thick layer of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Go For Gold. Next time I do a similar design, I’ll think it through before I start so I don’t wind up with a ton of layers!

Simple Stripes Pink Nails

watermeloncolorsnails

I did these nails a couple of weeks ago, but I was waiting until the holidays were over to post them. They’re simple, but I really like them. I wanted a bright pink mani with just a small detail. The pink is Revlon Parfumerie African Tea Rose, and the green stripe is Sinful Colors Nail Art Take Me To Heaven.
