31DC2017 Inspired by a Song – Golden Touch Nails

Another gradient, I know… I was trying to do these as quick as possible and with my non-dominant hand on top of that, so I went with the easy route. But anyway, excuses aside — these nails are based off of Namie Amuro’s song, Golden Touch. After her announcement that she plans to retire next year, I knew I had to do some nails inspired by one of my favorite J-Pop artists.

I couldn’t decide on just one song for today’s prompt, so instead I went for the album itself: Beyoncé’s LemonadeContinue reading

31DC2015 Inspired by a Song – Downtown

I guess it’s pretty obvious what song I’m doing . . . Macklemore’s “Downtown”! This song is so catchy and I love the music video. I thought of the design instantly – it’s simple but I think the moped turned out really cute. I used the same red from my last design, Sephora by OPI Personal Shopper. I’m in love with Color Club 24 Below, the metallic gold. I used it in messy strokes here, but it applies so well. Lastly I used my Sally Hansen I Love Nail Art Pens in White and Black for the letters and moped. These pens are great for writing, I have been using them a lot lately. I wouldn’t trade in my brushes for them since you can’t do a lot of detail work due to the thicker points, or smooth lines, but they are a nice extra to have especially when you’re feeling lazy (like me ;).

31DC2014 Inspired by a Song: Coldplay’s “Swallowed In The Sea”

I love Coldplay and I’ve been listening to their latest album a lot, so I knew I wanted to do one of their songs for the 31 Day Challenge. I decided to go with “Swallowed In The Sea” from X&Y because it’s one of my favorites, plus I instantly knew what I wanted to do for a design when I was listening to it.

I’m really happy with how the newspaper text turned out on these. I tore the pieces of newspaper I wanted to use, then laid them out on the nail. With an alcohol (50%) soaked cotton ball, I pressed down on the newspaper for about 20-30 seconds. I was a bit worried the text would smudge when I top coated, but thankfully that didn’t happen. There were a lot of polishes I used for this design, and I mixed a few of them to get the exact colors I wanted.

Sometimes I like to do drafts of nail art designs, especially if I think of them in advance, so I thought I’d include the one I did for this nail art. While I had to adjust some aspects of the design, I think it still looks pretty similar.

31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by a Song

This nail art is inspired by IU’s “Between The Lips (50cm)”. For the base I used Kleancolor Pastel Orange, and the lips are Sparitual Radiant. I thought of several color combinations for this, and in the end I’m not too happy with how it looks. Maybe if I had used a white base it would have turned out better.

31 Day Challenge: Inspired by a Song

I had some trouble with this challenge because I had a lot of songs I wanted to do, but couldn’t figure out how to put them into nail art. I finally decided to do Jolin Tsai’s The Great Artist. I love that song, the video, the lyrics, everything! So I designed each nail inspired by each of the five outfits she wears throughout the video.
