Tropical Foil Nail Art

The weather’s still a little cool in my area, but I really wanted to do some Summer-inspired tropical nails. These are loosely based (mainly the plants) on this esNAIL design. Instead of using pearls, I incorporated gold foil. Although I have nail art foil, this time I used Heidi Swapp Foil Flakes. I actually bought these with the intention of using them in my bullet journal, and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized these were practically identical in both shade and texture to my nail art foil flakes.

For the background, I dabbed on OPI Color Paints Primarily Yellow, Turquoise Aesthetic, and Pen & Pink using a sponge. I like how they blended, but I was hoping for a more pastel look, and they turned out too dark. As for the palms and flowers, I used various nail art polishes and some of my Sally Hansen nail art pens. The palms looked good in the beginning, but I kept trying to make them better, and they just got messier. Next time I’ll have to stop myself from overdoing it on a design! But, overall I’m pretty happy with these nails.

31DC2016 Honor Nails U Love – Dry Marble

I’d say it’s the last day of the challenge, but I’m a couple days late.  Actually, all this time I thought the challenge took place completely in September,  since I never finished it in time, but it officially ends October 1st, so go figure. But anyway, onto the final design!

I’m a big fan of esNAIL and for a while now I’ve been wanting to reproduce this beautiful dry marble nail art. As you can probably tell, mine is slightly different: I used a white background instead of a sheer one, square and round studs instead of triangular ones, and my dry marble is more chaotic looking. I tried to copy the original style as much as possible, but I need more practice.

Either tomorrow or the next day I’ll post the summary. I had a lot of fun with the challenge this year! It was hectic at times getting all the designs and posts in, and I had to do some of them in groups, but I’m glad I was able to do it. And now that I don’t have to worry about the challenge, I can focus on Halloween nail art!

esNAIL Inspired: Gold Gradient Nails with Rhinestones

I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to do with my nails, so I was browsing for some nail art to recreate when I saw these esNAIL silver gradient nails. I love how smooth the gradient looks, and the glitter they used on the tips. I decided to do a gold version since I haven’t done a gold gradient in a while. I didn’t use a sponge as I blended the colors with the nail polish brushes. I used several different gold toned glitters, and they helped to blend as well. Finally I added some AB rhinestones (though they just look clear in the photos), yellow and orange rhinestones, and a few yellow caviar beads, which unfortunately fell off by the time I took the pictures :-/ I’m really happy with these overall though!

31DC2014 Nails U Love: New Year’s Nails

Happy New Year’s everyone!

I kind of rushed this design a bit so I could get it done before midnight or else I’d have to tag it 31DC2015! I’m happy with how the nails turned out though. They’re a bit simpler than the design they’re based on (this one by esNAIL), and I changed a couple of things. The stars in the original have sequins and some caviar beads, but I did without them on my own nails. I also switched up the sequins on the index nail for rhinestones, since I don’t have the ones they used in the design. In the photo it looks like I’m missing some rhinestones on the right, but it’s just the light making them clear. I’m not sure if they used foil on the original nail art to get the mirrored effect, but I thought some silver, holographic foil would be a nice choice. Unfortunately it crinkled with the top coat.

Under the rhinestones and foil I used a metallic silver from Cosmetic Arts (it’s unnamed). The red accent nail is Milani Paint the Town Red, the white is Ciaté Snow Virgin, and the black is Salon Perfect Nail Art Black Ink.

See you in 2015!!

esNAIL Inspired: Floral Checkered Nail Art

These nails were inspired by this design from esNAIL. I tried my best to recreate it exactly, but I don’t have acrylic for the flowers, so I just used nail polish. I began by painting the areas that would be white, then used black for the checkers. I freehanded them, going back a few times with both the black and white to fix any mistakes. I then added the color sections. For the red, I used Revlon Parfumerie China Flower. I love the scent of this polish, and the ease with which the color goes on.

For the blue, I used Sinful Colors Rain Storm, and the yellow is Sally Girl Canary. Once it was pretty dry, I applied the foil. It was a bit tricky to achieve the same effect as in the original design, and I had to fix some parts that ended up with too much foil. After that, I painted the flowers, and glued on the rhinestones. I’m pretty happy with how this turned out, though it took forever, especially for both hands!

esNAIL Inspired: Colorful Marble

This design is also inspired by one from esNAIL: this one. When I saw it, I immediately loved the combination of bright colors with the accent marble nail. The colors I chose aren’t as bright, and the marble nail is different, but I really like how it turned out.

esNAIL Inspired: Matte Navy Colorblock and Bows

These nails are inspired by an esNAIL design. I lost the link to the exact nail art, but this one is similar. The navy is OPI Russian Navy – matte and the sheer pink is Wet ‘n’ Wild Megalast Sugar Coat.

2 Designs Inspired by esNAIL

Inspired by this design. For the “I Love” and outlines of the heart and lips I used a striper brush, though it turned out a bit messy. I went with a matte topcoat: NYC’s Matte Me Crazy.

Inspired by this design. I used wet n wild Fergie’s Hollywood Walk of Fame for the ring finger. The brush doesn’t pick up the stars easily, but I love the combination of star colors and the mini holo stick glitter.
