31DC2017 Inspired by a Tutorial – Pink Tie Dye Nails

Recently, I did a tie dye design based on a tutorial by Nailistas (you can check out mine here). I love how it turned out so much that I decided to try it again for this prompt, but using a color scheme closer to the one she used in the tutorial. This is such a fun and easy nail art to do that doesn’t require you to be so neat. It’s just a matter of applying several layers of polish, then using a Q-tip to remove the top layers. If you’re interested in trying it out, be sure to check out her tutorial!

31DC2017 Inspired by Art – Pop Art Nails

I’m almost at the end of the challenge now, only a few more designs to go! This year it’s been way more hectic than in the past, so I’m glad that I’ll be able to wrap it up soon. This design in particular took me a bit of time to do, but it wasn’t that difficult. I was inspired by pop art, specifically the art of Roy Lichtenstein, and I think it looks pretty good. The stamping plate I used is BP-L062 and features a variety of similarly styled images.

I finally bought some stamping polishes which made a huge difference when picking up the images. They came in a Pueen stamping kit which works really well and I might review later. I also bought a clear jelly stamper from the Born Pretty Store which made stamping the image on my curved nails easier. Once the stamps were down, I used sheer polishes to color them in.

31DC2017 Inspired by Fashion – Carolina Herrera 2018 Nails

This year for the fashion prompt I was inspired by a design from Carolina Herrera’s Spring 2018 collection. I began by applying a nude base color, let that dry, then painted sections with blue and yellow. Finally, I used a variety of different polishes to dot the colorful specks over the nude. I didn’t use any tape, but doing so would have made the color blocked sections much neater. You can see the design that inspired this nail art below!

Back To School Nail Art + 31DC2017

I love how these school themed nails turned out! I wasn’t planning on doing back to school nail art, but then my sister gave me some nail deco she wasn’t using anymore, including cute apples like the one in the photo, which inspired me. I used a matte top coat on all the nails and I love how it makes the chalkboards look more realistic.

On another note, tomorrow is the first day of 2017’s 31 Day Nail Art Challenge! Last year I completed most of the challenge in September, only going over a couple days. I think I’ll take it slower this year though (not too slow!). As a reminder, below are the usual prompts. The image is from More Nail Polish,  who is leading the challenge this year!

Colorful Crab Nail Art

I have mixed feelings about these nails. I like how colorful they look and how I was able to mix some of the sheer polishes, but overall the design is a mess. I was trying to do the challenge prompt for ‘crab’ but the crabs look more like blobs. The star studs are cute though, and they gave me an idea for a 4th of July design.

I used OPI Color Paints in Primarily Yellow, Magenta Muse, Landscape Artist, and Indigo Motif and OPI Sheer Tints Don’t Violet Me Down to mix the colors for the background. I like how it gives it a jelly look. I painted the crabs with Color Club Apollo Star and added the blue glitter accent on the middle nail with Sinful Colors Nail Junkie.

Tropical Foil Nail Art

The weather’s still a little cool in my area, but I really wanted to do some Summer-inspired tropical nails. These are loosely based (mainly the plants) on this esNAIL design. Instead of using pearls, I incorporated gold foil. Although I have nail art foil, this time I used Heidi Swapp Foil Flakes. I actually bought these with the intention of using them in my bullet journal, and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized these were practically identical in both shade and texture to my nail art foil flakes.

For the background, I dabbed on OPI Color Paints Primarily Yellow, Turquoise Aesthetic, and Pen & Pink using a sponge. I like how they blended, but I was hoping for a more pastel look, and they turned out too dark. As for the palms and flowers, I used various nail art polishes and some of my Sally Hansen nail art pens. The palms looked good in the beginning, but I kept trying to make them better, and they just got messier. Next time I’ll have to stop myself from overdoing it on a design! But, overall I’m pretty happy with these nails.

Glitter Placement 2017 New Year’s Nail Art

2017glitternails2

Couldn’t resist doing another New Year’s design! This one is much simpler, using only Sinful Colors Supernova, a metallic rose gold, and the year written in hex glitters. For my thumb, I used silver glitter to represent the Times Square ball.

Happy New Year everyone!!

I don’t do a lot of galaxy nail art, but I’m really proud of this one. It looks so colorful and I love how the blending turned out, especially on the thumb nail.  Continue reading
