31DC2016 Inspired by a Flag – Velvet America

Flag inspired is my least favorite day of the challenge because it always takes me forever to come up with something. Thankfully this year I decided on the USA flag pretty quickly. Not only are the elections next month, but I didn’t do my usual 4th of July nails this year, so this was a good opportunity to get them in.

I wanted to do something different than the usual though so I went looking through my nail art stash for ideas. That’s when I found my only two flocking powders I own (by My Beauty Spot) in red and blue — perfect for the flag! To stick the powder on I painted sections of the nails with Sinful Colors Endless Blue and Sinful Colors Hot & Sour. Since I don’t have white flocking powder, I just used a liner for the stars and stripes.

Fourth of July 2015 – Glitter Sandwich Nails

Here is my mani for this year’s Fourth of July! I haven’t done a glitter sandwich in forever, so I figured this would be a good time to give it another shot. My previous Independence Day manis (here and here) were a little more involved than this one, if you want to check them out.

I began with a thin layer of Kleancolor Sheer Red, let it dry, then dabbed on Hard Candy pop-arazzi, and let that dry before repeating. I really like this glitter as it’s so colorful and dense. I have a few glitters that are similar, but they also contain glitter dust, so the effect isn’t the same. On my index nail I applied Sally Hansen Complete Open Mica Night. The holo isn’t as obvious in the photos, but it looks amazing in person. As a finishing touch, I used a white striper polish to paint a star.

Happy Fourth of July!

4th of July 2014 Nail Art

I love how these turned out! For this design, I started off with one coat of Milani Creme Brulee, a semi-sheer beige, and one coat of Sally Hansen Xtreme White On for the accent nail. I originally had planned on only doing the tips, but I got carried away and brought the color down more. With the polish brushes, I made abstract swirls in blue and red with Sinful Colors Most Sinful and Kleancolor Blood. I then sponged over them to give it a messier look and to emphasize the gradient. After painting on the white lines with a striper brush, I placed the blue and red sequins.

It’s a bit early still, but happy fourth of July!

Memorial Day 2014 Nails

For this design, I started with one coat of Sephora by OPI Queen of Everything, a super pretty metallic silver that has a gold shine. The red poppies are Revlon Parfumerie China Flower; the lilacs are Fresh Paint Passion Fruit and Piggy Polish Blue-ming Romance; and the tiny dandelions are Revlon Parfumerie Sunlit Grass. For the grass, I used Sinful Colors Nail Art Take Me To Heaven and Kiss Nail Art Bikini Green.

I feel like May has been a slow month in terms of nail art for me. Being sick and also busy with the end of the semester and graduation, I didn’t really feel like sitting down to paint my nails. Now that things have stabilized, I’m getting back into it again, and I’m looking forward to doing many summer inspired designs!

4th of July Nails

Kind of late, but Happy 4th of July! The silver is Sinful Colors Charmed with Cover Girl disco dazzle on top. The blue is Sinful Colors Blue By You, and the red is Kleancolor Bite Me. It has a lot of shimmer that isn’t showing up well in the photo; it’s also slightly darker in person.
