Floral Decal Mirror Nails

A few years ago I bought some floral water decals, and while I used one, never got around to using the other ones (you can see that design here). I finally grabbed them the other day and I’m so glad I did, because I love how they turned out!

They were much easier to apply than how I remember from back when I first did it. I just cut up the sections I was going to use, removed the plastic covering, then put each one in room-temperature water for about 20 seconds. After taking them out of the water, I used tweezers to separate the clear design from the white paper backing.

Since I knew they’d be clear, I first painted two coats of white on the nails, letting it dry almost completely before applying the decals. To do that, I just placed one on the nail, adjusting it so I could get the part of the picture that I wanted, then applied top coat. That melted the decal enough that I could easily remove the excess with the tweezers. I’d also recommend making cuts along the outer part of the decal so it lays flat when you’re applying it.

For the mirror nails I used a nail powder and gel top coat with the UV lamp I got for Christmas last year. I’d actually done those for another design I wore for a few days before deciding I didn’t like it. I took photos of it, but I doubt I’ll post them – I just wasn’t happy with it. But I liked the mirror nails, so I decided to keep those and change the rest.

As a finishing touch, I added the rhinestones to complement the floral nails. The rhinestones are stickers that already come in that design so it was super easy to apply them.

Swirl Border Nail Art

Here are some simple border nails on a nude background. I used a coat of Sparitual Idyllic, a sheer pink, as a base, then painted the borders and swirls on with white acrylic paint.

I was on vacation last week and planned to post the nails I wore then, but kept forgetting to photograph them, and by the time I got back they were pretty chipped. I really like the design (zebra print), so I might redo them, but this week I definitely felt like something less intense. These border nails didn’t take long, but I did have some trouble with the brush I was using since it wasn’t thin enough. A thinner brush would have made the details much sharper.

Video Game Nails – Classic Tomb Raider

Apart from doing my nails, I also really enjoy playing video games, both on PC and consoles. So, I thought I would do a few nail art designs inspired by some of my favorite video games. I don’t plan on posting these one after the other, but every now and then I’ll continue this theme.

The first design in this series is inspired by my favorite video game franchise, Tomb Raider! These are based on the classic games, specifically 1-3, but I love the reboot as well. I primarily used acrylic paints for these nails, with the exception of the glitters: Sephora by OPI It’s Real 18K Gold Top Coat and Sinful Colors Devil’s Stare. While I like the effect the Sephora polish gives, it’s a pain to get any real glitter payoff since there is so much clear base in the bottle. I was much more sparse with the Sinful Colors glitter since that is more dense and I only wanted a hint of the red.

I based the design on some of the artifacts Lara collects in the games (can you tell which ones?) and I’m really proud of how they turned out. This took a bit longer to do than I had anticipated, but I wanted to make sure I got the artifacts (mostly) right.

I’m super excited for Shadow of the Tomb Raider to come out in September – I can’t wait to play it! Once release date rolls around I might do some nails for it.

Betty Boop Nail Art

I love how these Betty Boop nails turned out! I was inspired to do them after I saw a few episodes the other day. It had been such a long time since I’d seen it so I couldn’t remember much of the other characters. Drawing Betty Boop was a little difficult, especially since I had to file my nail to an awkward length after a break, but I managed it pretty well. I used Revlon Ravishing for the red and Ciaté Cream Soda for the gray. For the rest of the design and details, I used a combination of nail art liners and pens.

Pink Ombre Nails

Nothing too exciting, but I felt like doing a simple paint job. I had planned on doing more Valentine’s Day designs this month, but I was busier than usual. Below are all the polishes I used for these nails. I actually bought them all in one trip to the store – I couldn’t resist! The only one that gave me trouble was the palest peach. It was a little thick and streaky, but I find that’s the case with a lot of paler shades, especially if they’re matte.

I also bought a beautiful green, Mermaid of Money (and a couple of base coats which I might review in the future), but it literally shattered in the bag! I had to remove the green polish off all the other bottles. I’m definitely being more careful with Salon Perfect bottles in the future.

I have a similar pink ombre design I did a few years ago using Wet n Wild polishes here if you’re interested.

Burgundy Nails with Gold Accent

There’s not much going on in these nails except for the accent, but I was in the mood for something simple. The burgundy is Julep Hayley, and I really like the color though it took three coats for full coverage. I used a mixture of glitter and foil for the gold accent nail.

I’ll be posting some Christmas and holiday nail art soon!

Back To School Nail Art + 31DC2017

I love how these school themed nails turned out! I wasn’t planning on doing back to school nail art, but then my sister gave me some nail deco she wasn’t using anymore, including cute apples like the one in the photo, which inspired me. I used a matte top coat on all the nails and I love how it makes the chalkboards look more realistic.

On another note, tomorrow is the first day of 2017’s 31 Day Nail Art Challenge! Last year I completed most of the challenge in September, only going over a couple days. I think I’ll take it slower this year though (not too slow!). As a reminder, below are the usual prompts. The image is from More Nail Polish,  who is leading the challenge this year!

Quick August Update

Hey everyone, I just wanted to post a quick update about my lack of posts recently. I’ve been pretty busy and haven’t had much chance to do my nails. I’m also going on vacation for a couple of weeks, so I probably won’t be posting any nail art until late August. I do plan on participating in the 31 Day Nail Art Challenge this year as usual though, so I’ll most likely have a ton of posts starting in September. See you then :)

Blue Arc Nails

Just some quick nail art I did! This was simple and only took me a few minutes to do. I really like the combination of the blue, rose gold, and light green.

PLL Liar’s Lament Game Board Nail Art

I had to take a quick break from the Glam Nails June Challenge to post these PLL nails! If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you might have seen the first Pretty Little Liars nails that I did back in 2015 – if not, you can check them out here. I love the show and have been watching it weekly since season 3 (after binge-watching the first 2 seasons). I’m super excited about the series finale (happening tonight!), but also sad the show will be over. So, for this last ever episode of PLL, I painted my nails in honor of the amazing Liar’s Lament game that was the focus of this half-season.

I began by sponging OPI Color Paints Primarily Yellow and Landscape Artist over white to represent the grass. I also sponged Finger Paints Scenery Greenery, a darker green, on the two middle nails so the name would stand out. I then used Sinful Colors Navy I Do to make the roads, and Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art Pens in White, Orange, and Green to add the letters and the other details.

I can’t wait to find out who A.D. is! Although I was wrong last time, I’m still sticking to Spencer’s twin for this reveal, with Melissa as a close second. Who do you think A.D. will be?
