31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by Nails You Love

flowernails

Last day of the challenge! These nails are inspired by Top Coat It’s Spring Flower manicure. Not very winter-y, but I love the design. I decided to go for a watermelon color scheme.

Kleancolor Bikini Green
Sinful Colors Innocent, Snow Me White
Mattese Pink Royale

31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by a Tutorial

I love how these turned out, especially the little snowman! I think they’re perfect for the Christmas and winter season. I followed Simply Rins tutorial. When I first saw it I thought it would be really complicated to do, but it wasn’t too bad. For the night sky I used China Glaze Eyes Like Sapphires, and acrylic paint for everything else. Only one more day left for the challenge!!

31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by the Supernatural

fairynails

Fairies! I tried to draw them as best I could, but I don’t know if you’d be able to tell they’re fairies without knowing. The pink is Sinful Colors Starfish. For the gold, I used Funky Fingers Golden Grace with Maybelline Color Show Gold’s Night Out on top – both beautiful gold glitters.

31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by a Flag

I love this design! The blue is Sinful Colors Most Sinful, one of my favorite blues at the moment. The glitter on the ring finger is Maybelline Brocades Beaming Blue over a coat of Most Sinful. I used Art Club Nail Art White and Kiss Nail Art Soft Purple.

I’m excited I only have 3 days of the challenge left. I enjoy it, but it can become a headache. I admit that around this time last year I couldn’t wait for it to be done. I hope to do some Christmas inspired designs soon.

31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by Artwork

artnails

I had a hard time figuring out which artwork to use as inspiration for this challenge. I’ve been busy lately and I wanted something that would be relatively quick to do. This design is inspired by the art of Piet Mondrian.

Sinful Colors Snow Me White
ULTA Blue Streak
Hurricane Nail Art Yellow
Sinful Colors Nail Art Be My Valentine, Time Off

31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by a Pattern

patternnailsnew

This pattern is inspired by a scarf I have. I’m really happy with how it turned out, and it makes me want to try more abstract designs. I used,

Sparitual Full of Life
ULTA Wild Night
Sinful Colors Fig
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lively Lilac
Wet ‘n’ Wild Black Creme

31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by Fashion

fashion

These are inspired by a dress (shown below) from Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2013 Collection. I love the print and the color combination. For the base, I used a nameless beige color from S&C, then white and black polish to make the squares.

I’m trying Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat, and it takes longer to dry than my usual top coat, so I ended up smudging the nails a bit. The black also streaked, which was disappointing. However, I’m mainly interested in it as a base coat to see if it can prevent staining.

31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by a Book

booknails

My nails for today’s challenge aren’t inspired by one specific book, but Agatha Christie books in general. I love mystery, and lately I’ve been watching a ton of Poirot and Marple episodes, so I thought this would be a great way to represent them on my nails.

Poirot’s Moustache (thumb & middle)
Sinful Colors Athens (dusty green), Cabana (dusty red)

Miss Marple’s Knitting (ring)
Sparitual Shoot for the Stars
Wet ‘n’ Wild On a Trip
Sinful Colors Mauve, Seaweed, Athens

Bottle of Poison (index)
Kleancolor Mango Burst, Bikini Green

Dripping Blood (little)
Sinful Colors Grecian Sun
Revlon Parfumerie China Flower (I love this color and it’s super shiny! Although the floral smell doesn’t last too long, it’s pleasant.)

I also used Sinful Colors Snow Me White and Wet ‘n’ Wild Black Creme.

31 Day Challenge 2013: Inspired by a Movie

movienails

This design is inspired by The Little Mermaid. Recently, I saw the Disney version again after not watching it since I was a kid – my favorite character is still Scuttle! As soon as I saw this challenge was coming up, I instantly knew which movie I’d pick.

Here are all the colors I used:

Bubbles (thumb & ring fingers):
I started with Sinful Colors Paradise, then with large and small dotting tools made the bubbles in Brucci Kathy’s Baby Blues. I dotted ORLY Angel Rain on top of the bubbles to give them an iridescent effect. Finally, I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White to highlight. The bubbles are my favorite part of the look.

Ariel’s Fin (index finger):
I used Sinful Colors Open Seas for the base color, then went over it with a thin coat of Wet ‘n’ Wild Ocean Grotto (Did you notice my attempt at choosing polishes with sea-related names? ;) For the lines on the fin, I used a long, thin nail art brush and white polish. I went over all of it with Sinful Colors Pacific Ocean, a sheer green/blue duochrome. To give it some dimension, I retraced some lines with the white.

Ariel’s Shell Bra (little finger):
This one was the most complicated for me to do. I wanted to get the look of the shells, but I had a difficult time getting the shape right. Wet ‘n’ Wild On a Trip was my base color, and I drew in the lines with Finger Paints Amethyst Atelier. I kind of did a mix of Sinful Colors Let Me Go and Let’s Talk in between. Let’s Talk is a reddish-purple (looking more blue in the photo) shimmer/metallic color, and Let Me Go is a sheer purple/green duochrome.

Starfish & Sand (middle finger):
I applied two coats of Mattese Glistening Nude as the sand. I love this color – it’s a light beige with gold shimmer. The starfish is Sparitual Weathered The Storm with Wet ‘n’ Wild Waves of Enchantment on top. I used white to outline the starfish and make tiny dots on the sand, but I think I could have gone without that.
