31 Day Challenge 2012 Summary

Day 31: Recreate Your Favorite Challenge (Glitter)

31 Day Challenge: Recreate Favorite Manicure

Yay! Finally the last day of the 31 Day Nail Art Challenge!! I really wanted to get it done before the new year; I’ve been working on it since September! It’s been very frustrating at times but I’m glad I did it, there were designs I wouldn’t have thought of or tried otherwise. I’ll be posting an overview of all the designs I did in a couple of days.

For this one I recreated the glitter challenge, and it also goes well with the theme of New Year’s Day. The star glitter is from wet n wild’s Fergie collection. While I love it, I did end up using some loose star glitter I had, because it was a bit complicated to get on the nail. I used Sinful Color’s Fig for  the other nails–a color I’ve been wanting to use for the longest time but always ended up picking another color. I wanted the ring finger to resemble the countdown ball, but the photo doesn’t pick up well the big round glitter.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe New Year’s!

31 Day Challenge: Inspired by a Tutorial

For this challenge I was inspired by Chalkboard Nails’ Fishtail Manicure Tutorial! It’s very easy to do and there’s even a video tutorial. It was difficult working with the metallic colors though, especially Maybelline’s Bold Gold, but the top coat makes it less noticeable. I really like this design and I hope to try it again soon with different colors.

31 Day Challenge: Inspired by the Supernatural

When I started this one I wasn’t planning on just using black and white, and had several colors selected. But I wasn’t happy with my original design at all, so I decided to do something much simpler.

31 Day Challenge: Inspired by a Flag

I didn’t feel too inspired for this challenge, and I recently did flag nails. So I just created my own peace flag!

31 Day Challenge: Inspired by Art

I had a few different ideas for this design, all pretty abstract. When I first started thinking about this challenge I had a painting by Helen Frankenthaler in mind, but when I saw it again it was too dark and I wanted something more colorful. I didn’t know too much about her other works, so I looked her up and found three paintings I wanted to use for the challenge. In the end I chose the one that incorporated the most colors.

Kiss Nail Art Beach Pink, Soft Pink
Hurricane Nail Art Yellow

I really like how it turned out and it didn’t take that long either. I think they kind of look like roses.

The painting is Flirt by Helen Frankenthaler:

The other two paintings I considered were Sesame and Contentment Island. I like her work a lot and I encourage everyone to check it out!

31 Day Challenge: Inspired by a Pattern

I knew right away which pattern I wanted to do for this challenge. I have a tin container that has snowflakes on it and I based the design on that. It’s also very winter themed!

31 Day Challenge: Inspired by Fashion

I don’t normally follow fashion shows, but I am familiar with a few designers. I love Carolina Herrera’s designs, so I based the nail art for this challenge on a red dress from her Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear collection. I love the detailed black and white beading and I tried to mimic the look with the help of stripers and nail art tape as guides. My base color was Orly’s Monroe’s Red and the stripers I used were Hurricane in White, Kiss Nail Art in Black, and  Sinful Color Nail Art in Be My Valentine to help correct lines. Overall, I’m really proud of how it turned out!

31 Day Challenge: Inspired by a Book

For this challenge I chose to use the Madeline books as inspiration. I really loved the series as a child and the drawing style.

31 Day Challenge: Inspired by a Movie

For this challenge, I decided to do one of my favorite movies of all time since I was a kid: The Wizard of Oz. On my left hand I did Emerald City, the pattern on Dorothy’s dress, the Wicked Witch’s stockings, Dorothy’s shoes, and the Good Witch’s dress. On my right hand I did the yellow brick road going across all of the nails!
